Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party understands precisely where to head next after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the group enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can expect finding out which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
